Our Story
S.E.T. was founded by Casey and Henry Shoemaker who have a passion for sports and the exceptional experiences sports provide.
The Shoemaker’s multisport journey started with the second of their four daughters, Camille, at the CA Kids Triathlon in 2015. Camille went on to compete in the U.S.A. Triathlon Youth and Junior Elite Draft Legal Series qualifying for multiple National Championships. Camille is now an NCAA Division 1 swimmer at Mount Saint Mary's University and helps coach the S.E.T. youth triathlon and cross country teams.
In 2022 younger sister Grace began competing in triathlon at the Hagerstown Youth Triathlon. In 2024 the Shoemaker's youngest daughter, Miranda, joined the S.E.T. cross country team to make multisport a true family affair.
Founders
Henry Shoemaker (S.E.T. Co-founder, S.E.T. Youth Team Head Coach)
Henry is a USAT Level 2 Certified Coach and was selected to coach at the 2022 USAT Paralympic Combine for future Paralympic hopefuls at the Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. That same year Henry founded the first youth triathlon team in Howard County. Henry has over 25 years of training and coaching experience in the private sector and federal government. He is also past Treasurer and President of a local triathlon club.
Casey Shoemaker (S.E.T. Co-founder, Chief Statistician)
Casey grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana as the middle of 3 kids. During childhood she spent most days in the pool. In high school she played volleyball, basketball, and softball. Casey attended Millsaps college and graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in mathematics, a focus in actuarial sciences, and a minor in statistics.
In her 20s Casey was really into spin class, in her 30s she started doing half marathons, and in her 40s, after having their fourth daughter, Casey became an avid Crossfitter. She entered her first CrossFit competition in 2023 and looks forward to class every day because she can’t wait to see what challenge awaits. Casey’s non fitness hobbies include math puzzles, spreadsheets, databases, and memorizing numerical sequences.
S.E.T. Advisory Board
“Being part of the S.E.T. Youth triathlon team has given me the opportunity to practice a multi-sport that I didn't know existed until a few years ago. The S.E.T. Youth triathlon team practices are fun and keeps me interested in all three sports. In other sports teams that I joined, I felt like I was working on the same skills over and over again at practice but with the S.E.T. Youth triathlon team, I’m able to practice all three sports so there is no time to get bored. This year was my first-time swimming in open water and after just one practice, I felt comfortable and can’t wait to do more.”
“…Being a part of a S.E.T Youth Triathlon team has allowed me to participate and compete in multiple sports that I love. It has also given me the opportunity to make new connections with peers from different cities, cultural backgrounds, and schools. Lastly, being a part of a S.E.T Youth Triathlon team has taught me more about my own abilities and the importance of working together with other people for a greater purpose.”
"Triathlon is an individual sport and I'm impressed at how S.E.T. promotes a team environment."
“As parents of a child who is part of a S.E.T Youth Triathlon team, this has allowed us to bond, support, and celebrate one another through the learning curbs, triumphs, and growth of our child.
“The fundamentals of the program promotes more responsibility, planning, and preparation, which can be used in my child’s daily life at school, within any extracurricular activities, or in life overall.”
"I like being able to make new friends outside of school and the coaches make practices and the meets fun."
“As parents of a child who is part of a S.E.T Youth Triathlon team, this has allowed us to bond, support, and celebrate one another through the learning curbs, triumphs, and growth of our child.
"The coaches certainly mix the teaching and learning of the sport with enjoyment and relationship building."

What exactly is S.E.T.?S.E.T. is a collective of multisport athletes, families, coaches, and business partners who love to race endurance sports and support the endurance sport community and lifestyle. We believe that keeping joy in endurance sports is critical to keeping people in the multisport and endurance sport lifestyle. Thus, our mission to provide the absolute best multisport skill development, training opportunities, and race day experiences. We believe that training and racing multisport should be fun, and after almost a decade of supporting local, regional, and national multisport training and racing, we are excited to offer that support to the S.E.T. teams.

What is the vision for the Adult TeamAt the micro, our goal is to help grow a community of adults who train, race, and travel together and most of all have FUN doing endurance sports, but without the politics and cliques of some local clubs. The outcome is to build lasting relationships and memories. At the macro, we envision pairing the best aspects of the camaraderie, passion, inclusivity, and visibility of large national and regional teams, the Raceday services and support of some local teams, and the expertise and talent of some of the massive "Coaches Teams" you see. That is an ambitious goal, we know, but we believe in the value and potential impacts of this approach to revitalize multisport.

Would I fit in on a S.E.T. team?Yes. We have a team for everyone from beginners to elites, youth to masters. Our common bond is that we LOVE to RACE, and to support those who do! We are conventional triathletes, offroad triathletes, endurance swimmers, road, mountain, and gravel cyclists, road and trail runners, swim runners, aqua bikers, and adventure racers. We are learn to swimmers and Bay Swim finishers. We are Kent Island Connectors, Century Riders, Grand Fondos, Mountain Bike Epics, and 200-mile Gravel Grinders. We are couch to 5k’ers, Boston finishers, and want to be Leadville legends. We are aspiring first time triathletes and Kona Qualifiers.

Can I join S.E.T.'s Adult Team if I already have a coach or am a member of a club?Yes! We provide access to our coaching partners, but we are coaching agnostic. We want you to have the best coach for YOU. You can still take full advantage of our team environment, group training offerings, full race day support, and other services. We are not absolutist, and we will never contradict your coaches direction. We will support you, answer your questions, and refer you to resources. In addition, we advocate for joining a traditional triathlon club. We believe triathlon clubs are a critical social component to the overall multisport experience, and provide great benefit. We can help connect you with a club in your local area.

How did you come up with the name Syndicate Endurance Team? This team was formed to fill serious voids in the triathlon, multisport, and endurance sports community. We strongly believe it is going to take a massive effort to grow multisport to it's full potential. We cannot do that alone and we knew we would need a collective of the brightest minds, biggest hearts, and most generous partners to support these teams of endurance athletes. They are the Syndicate!

Do I have to wear the S.E.T. Adult Kit in all of my races? No. Of course we would love that, but we recognize folks have favorite kit brands, or prefer to wear their coaches' team kit, or local tri club kit in certain races. We support our athletes wearing the kit that works best for each of their races. However, we do have minimum season race requirements in our kit, and you are obligated to buy the S.E.T. kit when you join.
